Using Media Convention
Through doing similar product research, I familiarized myself with the necessary conventions of music magazines. This was so I could create an accurate representation of a real-world text myself. Some of these conventions included masthead, sell-lines, varied fonts, and use of columns. These conventions are typical of the medium, however I also looked at the conventions of the particular genre I wanted to emulate, studying the tone and the way the audiences were addressed. I found that within a pop music genre, the tone is often friendly and approachable, so I used this research to construct my interview. I kept my interview as a light tone, talking to the artist in a conversational manner and making jokes. This sort of theme ran throughout the magazine, from the sell lines directly addressing the reader, to the editor's note on the contents page which sought to form a bond between the magazine and the reader.
